the Oldest Profession - redux
Everyone knows that one of the big factors that drove the Internet's exponential explosion over the past 15 years was its less wholesome side. Those who cruise the Web's seedier alleys often are watching slaves at work. Unfree people engage in forced labour for the surfer's online pleasures. This is one not-so-secret, hideous fact on which the Web is built: slaves are never further away from us than a couple of mouse clicks. One Google search makes the global virtual world more decadent than ancient Rome. This is another great Millennial disconnect between the hype about our reality - and our actual reality. The Internet is supposedly the high tech bastion of the shiny, seamless, progressive, Singularity-ridden future. Even more ironically, the Web is home to hackers and Cyber freedom fighters who are fixated on the free sharing of information and oppose what they characterize as evil capitalist copyright enforcers.
But down in its basements and not-so-secluded corners, the Internet has been a medium built by the slavery. One glance at today's virtual reality is that not much has changed over 2,500 years: when they defined the oldest profession, the Greeks classed the lowest stratum of slaves as pornai.
Contemporary slavery is now predicted to outstrip illegal drug trafficking. This year, CNN is publishing articles to raise awareness that slavery is not a lost, purely historical phenomenon. In fact, seemingly abolished slavery never disappeared at all. It is integral to global manufacturing, especially performed by children, in the clothing industry, the production of chocolate, and many other foods and household goods, from women's underwear, to rugs, to designer running shoes. In addition, the myth that life was cheap in the past, but now - after decades of politicking and progressive legislation - we are more humane, is not true. When it comes to slavery, human life is cheaper than it was two hundred years ago. A human being can now be bought for under USD $100; in 1809, a slave cost the equivalent of $40,000 in today's US dollars. Life is cheap, and the Internet is free.

Weed Wars: Medical Marijuana Hits Reality TV
Uploaded by ReasonTV on 14 Dec 2011
"Most of our patients and our staff were really skeptical about doing a reality TV show because they were watching Jersey Shore and The Kardashians," says Andrew DeAngelo, general manager of Oakland, California's Harborside Health Center, the largest medical marijuana dispensary in the world. Andrew and his brother, Harborside's Executive Director Steve DeAngleo, are co-stars of Weed Wars, a new show by the Discovery Channel that looks into lives of those who run Harborside, the patients that seek out their services, and the politicians looking to shut them down.
"There are a lot of stigmas about medical cannabis patients, that we don't work hard, that we're a bunch of stoners, that we are lazy, that we are really criminals or drug traffickers," explains Andrew DeAngleo. "All that is a lie that has been perpetrated by the feds and the media." By opening up their work and lives to cameras, the DeAngelo brothers hope to present a side of the medical marijuana debate that is rarely seen on American television. "This is our chance - and our patients and our staff's chance - to shine."
Reason.tv sat down with the DeAngleo brothers to discuss the show, the multi-agency crackdown on medical marijuana dispensaries and how the Obama Administration's recent reversal of policy is creating an opening for Republicans this election cycle.
Weed Wars airs Thursdays at 10pm on Discovery.
About 8.20 minutes.
Produced and edited by Meredith Bragg. Interview and camera by Anthony Fisher.

The Biggest Fraud ... Retirement Doesn't Exist?
Many of us won't be able to retire until our 80s ... You'll probably have to work much longer than you anticipated ... We all think it's a panacea. If you don't have enough money saved for retirement, you've got a few ways to close the gap between what you have and what you need in your nest egg: Save more, invest more aggressively, and/or work longer. Well, it turns out that working longer is indeed an option, according to the Employee Benefit Research Institute latest study. The only problem is that the latest research shows that you'll have to work much longer than you anticipated. In fact, many Americans will have to keep on working well into their 70s and 80s to afford retirement, according to the study, titled "The Impact of Deferring Retirement Age on Retirement Income Adequacy." – MarketWatch
Dominant Social Theme: OK, we've had some setbacks. But planning for retirement still makes sense.
Free-Market Analysis: This article, posted to MarketWatch, is a good example of how a dominant social theme – retirement – is being repositioned because it hasn't proven out in reality. The new retirement, we learn, is work related. You'll retire, but you'll still work. From our point of view, this doesn't sound like much of a retirement. But, hey, if you believed you could invest your way to retirement, maybe the elites can gain your support for this latest retirement wrinkle.
And yes, probably numerous people will accept the "new reality" of retirement without questioning the validity of the larger system. Too bad. Questioning how the world works (when it obviously isn't working the way you thought it would) is a GOOD idea. In our humble view people need to be more skeptical of the underlying assumptions around which they structure their lives.
The retirement meme, for instance, was just that – a promotion – that was never supposed to work and could not work in a central bank environment. But it sounded good. And there were and are many reasons to promote it. The powers-that-be have structured society and Western economies in a certain way. But they need a "buy-in" to make their manipulations work.
One group that has bought in is the professional investment class. Retirement is a huge industry in the US, perhaps the nation's biggest. These days, an army of financial planners and brokers, along with mutual funds companies and private investment enterprises, have a big stake in continuing the promotion. But of course, the retirement meme has the backing of even more powerful figures.
Western economies are controlled via central banking by only a few shadowy families and their enablers and associates. The system itself is designed to self-destruct, causing endless recessions, depressions and ongoing centralization of industry and labor. It is a bad system, but one necessary to helping the powers-that-be consolidate world government. Thus, the power elite has done what it can to create buy-in.
The best way to create involvement by the masses is to make this system, bad as it is, an integral part of their existence, hopes and dreams. The stock market especially has been part of this promotion. People have been fooled into thinking that they can "invest" their money and receive appropriate retirement income in a rational way.
This is simply not true. The business cycle itself precludes the possibility that people – most anyway – will have the savvy, willpower and appropriate time (or luck) to walk away with the necessary profits from their invested earnings. Most, or at least many, will not. Here's some more from the article:
So what can be done to make sure you have enough income in retirement? Well, the sad truth is that not working is no longer an option and working past age 65 is fast becoming a fact of life, at least for those in the lowest three income quartiles. One bright spot, according to John Nelson, co-author of 'What Color is Your Parachute? For Retirement' is that working works: "For those in the lower half of the income spectrum, delaying retirement from 65 to 69 has a profound effect," he said. "It increases retirement income adequacy by 25% to 50%! That's a powerful incentive."
The new normal Now the reality about EBRI's findings is that many Americans — who are able to continue working and whose skills are still in demand — are already working past age 65. In 2009, 17.2% of Americans age 65 and older were in the labor force, according to recent AARP Public Policy Institute report, "Family Income Sources for Older People, 2009." And about 14.2 million older persons (36.7% of the older population) had family incomes from earnings in 2009 ...
"Those older Americans who are looking for a job, those who have already retired and those who are working but need additional income or want to start something that they can continue into their retirement years are all reading (the work-from-home) pages," Koff said. Making it work To be sure, many Americans haven't figured out how to make working later a real option, instead of just a fantasy. And for them, Nelson has this advice: "You need to pay attention to your career and your health."
As Baby Boomers are discovering now, it was all something of a dream. In fact, here at DB we refer to the 20th century these days as a "dreamtime." It was a century when what we call "directed history" was in its heyday. The elites entirely controlled the media and could relate whatever stories they chose.
Of course, as we've pointed out, they used fear-based dominant social themes to push Western middle classes into giving up wealth and power to a variety of international agencies set up to facilitate the emergence of global governance. The fantasy of stock market wealth was just that – a fantasy – for most people.
Yet no dominant social theme was much more successful than the investment meme. In the 20th century and even today the Anglosphere elites continue to push the idea of "investing." The buy-in of the middle class means a psychological endorsement of the world as it is, including central banking and fiat money.
There are other ways to deal with "retirement," of course. These have to do with creating a modest lifestyle that emphasizes self-sufficiency rather than consumerism. One also needs to try to find some level of self-sufficiency when it comes to employment. Large, white-collar "factories" are inevitably going to fire thousands, even tens of thousands, during economic downturns.
Of course, all this is more easily said than done. However, the reality is not what it seems and people best face it. The current Greater Recession, which is really a depression, is not really recoverable, or not in the near term. We would argue that it is the outcome of deliberate policies designed, quite possibly, to create first a new "great war" and then some sort of world government.
it is all becoming increasingly evident in the 21st century: the manipulations, the control, the larger elite agenda. Many white-collar jobs are make-work and a modern, "investment-enabled" retirement tends to work only in the "up" part of the business cycle when fiat money is in demand. This extended down-cycle is going to be an extended and brutal one because of all the past re-stimulations of the world's economy. Think of a heart patient who has been resuscitated one-time too many.
The power elite is racing against time in our view. The Internet Reformation has revealed to a great many what is really going on ... and yet, still, the vision of a leisurely retirement continues to be sold to the masses. One would hope that people won't continue to fall for this particular dominant social theme, as attractive as it is, as the 21st century unfolds.
Conclusion: In fact, one would like to believe that as people begin to realize the intense effort underway to press them to conform to the farcical "dreamtime" of Western retirement, they will re-think some of the other memes that they may have accepted unquestioningly in the past. Then something good would come out of the "bonfire of dreams" currently taking place.

Planning, Ethnic Cleansing and Dale Farm

By Mhairi McAlpine
Yesterday morning saw the anticipated eviction of Dale Farm. With the failure of the final appeal on Monday, the site was in a state of nervous apprehension. At 7am this morning an £18m operation to clear the area began. All done in the name of greenbelt and planning laws.
Before the travellers bought Dale Farm, the site was a scrapyard. They built a neat little residential area and applied for planning permission. This permission – as is the case with 90% of applications from travellers - was denied. This denial contrasts with Basildon Council’s decision to sell off greenbelt at Vange School and at other areas including an enormous Homebase development on greenbelt land, and other developments on highly valuable land at Kent View and Northlands. A decision on a 500-strong housing development at Gloschester Park again on greenspace due to be taken on the 20th has been delayed, presumably to avoid direct comparison. Amazingly the property right next door to Dale Farm, owned by a self-styled “anti-traveller activist” successfully applied to have an illegal building extended, despite an unenforced eviction notice on other illegal dwelling places on the site.
Planning laws are routinely breached by corporate entities which take a calculated gamble that they can outmaneuver any attempt by councils to enforce the law. The government has also announced plans to lighten planning restrictions in a move which has been described as “carte blanche” for developers, while aides have secretly briefed developers on its contents prior to publication. This is not about the Greenbelt or planning laws, these are merely excuses. This is about the undesirable “other”.
The discourse surrounding Dale Farm exposes the underlying intention which Basildon Council could never openly state. People are openly talking about pikeys & gypos, about theiving and about “them” taking over. Any suggestion that this is ethnic cleansing is robustly countered as an accusation that the residents are “playing the race card”, that they “want more rights than the rest of us”. Although sometimes the latent racism does seep through the rhetoric – in 2008, after the Essex Racial Equality Council provided a community centre for the residents a Dale Farm, the leader of the council announced that it had done more to undermine race relations than any another body. For Basildon Council have a particular view of the relations that they would like between the travellers and the settled community, and equality undermines that relation.
The violence unleashed on Dale Farm is unparalled. Cancer patients have had the electricity supply to their breathing apparatus cut; people have been tasered on site; one woman has been taken to hospital with spinal injuries and legal and safety observers have been threatened as they tried to keep those locked on safe. This has been looked on with approval by sections of the population including a Conservative councillor who gleefully anticipated “human kerplunk” as people were removed from the defence tower. While the police accuse residents and protesters of violence and insist that tasers were deployed only as a defensive tactic (presumably when at risk from a notepad weilding legal observer) this is robustly denied by the residents
The only premeditated violence has come from the police — they knew exactly what they were doing when they started beating and Tasering people. This is not how a community should be treated by its own council. It’s illegal for us to travel, but illegal for us to settle down here. We’re getting hit by the police but we’ve got nowhere else to go.
Although the use of tasers is unprecidented in a public order situation, state violence against travellers is not new. In 1985, police charged at a convoy of travellers, beat them with batons and dragged screaming children from their homes so that they could watch them being smashed.
Occurring in an age prior to citizen media and the horizonal communications sytems that we have today, footage showing pregant women, children and people holding babies being clubbed was mysteriously lost after filming, while the narrative played out on television was that of brave police defending themselves against lawless travellers. Not withstanding Kim Sabido of ITN News described it as
…the most brutal police treatment that I have encountered in my career as a journalist… There must surely be an inquiry after what has happened today.
There was no inquiry.
Roma and travellers are persecuted all across the EU, and Scotland is no exception to this. This racism is so ingrained and institutionalised that barely an eyebrow is raised. In 2008 Brian Donahoe, MP for Central Ayrshire, suggested organised state harassment as a solution to the gypsy “problem”, demanding
…. a policy of zero tolerance where-by the moment a travelling community set up camp illegally, they are targeted by all relevant organizations such as police, the education, social work departments, work and pensions, customs and excise and trading standards…… Inevitably some or all of these organisations would encounter illegalities or irregularities which would result in legal action.
By July this year, he had named his policy “The Tamworth Solution” based on the racist actions of an English Council while describing travellers as a “sourge” on “our” communities. Solutions to undesirable ethnicities have been devised before. We pledged never to repeat them, and yet we see ethnic cleansing being played out in the UK in 2011 on the televisions in our homes, while the homes of the others are destroyed.
Tonight 400 people, including many vunerable adults and approximately 100 children are homeless, two are in hospital and many more injured and traumatised for a piece of land that the council tarmaced over, dumped hardcore onto and let go to waste.

the Kill Team

Early last year, after six hard months soldiering in Afghanistan, a group of American infantrymen reached a momentous decision: It was finally time to kill a haji.
Among the men of Bravo Company, the notion of killing an Afghan civilian had been the subject of countless conversations, during lunchtime chats and late-night bull sessions. For weeks, they had weighed the ethics of bagging "savages" and debated the probability of getting caught. Some of them agonized over the idea; others were gung-ho from the start. But not long after the New Year, as winter descended on the arid plains of Kandahar Province, they agreed to stop talking and actually pull the trigger.
He was a smooth-faced kid, about 15 years old. Not much younger than they were: Morlock was 21, Holmes was 19. His name, they would later learn, was Gul Mudin, a common name in Afghanistan. He was wearing a little cap and a Western-style green jacket. He held nothing in his hand that could be interpreted as a weapon, not even a shovel. The expression on his face was welcoming. "He was not a threat," Morlock later confessed.

THE AWAKENING OF JIM CARREY
Despite his massive success and goofball persona, Canadian-born comedy actor Jim Carrey has spoken in the past of having suffered bouts of depression. And over the past few years he has begun to reveal a deeper, more spiritual side to his nature.
Jim has been on a search for ultimate meaning, a search largely inspired by the teachings of Eckhart Tolle.
The German-born author of A New Earth and The Power of Now, Eckhart, who now lives in Canada, teaches that most of humanity is captive to the mind and obsessive thinking, patterns that can be broken through meditation and other techniques.
Jim Carrey says that through Eckhart's teachings he has come to understand how his own suffering comes from fixating on thoughts. As he explains it, he had become locked in his own mind in part because of a childhood spent trying to entertain his terribly ill mother.
But after years of seeking he has finally had a spiritual breakthrough, a moment of enlightenment in which he realised for himself that "heaven" is found right here in the present moment. And having had his own breakthrough, he now says, "I want to take as many people with me as I can!"
In June 2009, Jim Carrey shared the spiritual spotlight with Eckhart Tolle and other speakers at the first meeting of the Global Alliance for Transformational Entertainment (GATE), held in Los Angeles. In the video clip below, Jim speaks of his moment of awaking and jokes about his nascent guru status.
Jim Carrey is an obvious Sage-type soul if ever there was one, doing what Sages do best in such films as The Mask, Dumb and Dumber, Liar Liar, The Truman Show, Yes Man and A Series of Unfortunate Events. It is to his credit that he has sought for meaning beyond the trappings of ego, fame and fortune, and especially that he has managed to set aside his natural Sage tendency to (over-)perform in order to communicate so candidly about his experience.
Further info
For more on Jim Carrey see jimcarreyonline.com.
Producer John Raatz, who formed the GATE organization, said the time is ripe in the entertainment industry for an "up-leveling of consciousness." Along with singer Melissa Etheridge and several other speakers, they urged their colleagues in film, TV, music and other media to use their work for the good of mankind, to influence positive and spiritual change on society.

Nothing to Fear...
2. this particular strain variously identified as "swine" or H1N1, is not particularly virulent, FACT!!
3. very successful flu remedies and preventative health measures are available without recourse to unnecessary and dangerous vaccination, FACT!!!...
...just a little research turns up the old favourite - HONEY, and ACTIVE MANUKA HONEY in particular "When taken internally, Manuka Honey has been used to treat conditions such as stomach ulcers, strep throat, acid reflux, irritable bowel syndrome, gastritis and other gastrointestinal complications. It has even proven effective in relieving sore throats, stomach aches, and cold/flu symptoms."
...Brian, in Japan adds "Do you want to protect yourself? Buy some organic, non-filtered apple cider vinegar and mix 2 big table spoons with 8oz water and drink it down 2 - 3 times a day. I’ve done this for years and never get sick. I love the stuff and drink it whenever I’m at home. Braggs is my choice. The Japanese know this trick too but they drink black vinegar–you can buy little tetra packs of the stuff at 7/11 here. The Japanese understand healthy food and drink."
...and Dr August Franklin (Benjamin's grandson) paraphrases Dr Jarvis "Two tablespoons honey with two tablespoons apple cider vinegar solution mixed first then with water added is more palitable than just straight vinegar, but also provides many critical minerals expecially potassium - the aches and pains are potassium depletion due to the pathogen employing it for replication.
After the first dosage, the virus or bacteria will re invade the blood from the interstitial tissue for nutrients and re bloom in 13 hours. A second dose of honey/vinegar in 10 hours and a third 10 hours after that and the body will return to health. In fact most people feel remarkably better in 30 minutes of the first dose. Then in 5 days or so, the natural production of antibodies will clean the rest up."
...Gisele points out "One fact the media never mentions is that during the 1918 flu pandemic 26,000 people were on record for taking the homeopathic remedy Gelsemium & of those who did only 1.5% got a fatal case of the flu"...Sher from Maui has some good advice on overcoming fatigue "The way I have been able to move through it is to cleanse, cleanse and cleanse some more. A product called “Perfect 7″ has been the sole surviving source I have used. Stop all chemicals you can from entering your system. Hair color, deodorant, lipstick, body lotions, etc. Get your toxins out. Daily. There are some extremely positive outcomes from moving yourself through this epidemic of depleted immune system dysfunction. You can move through it. That is my message. It just takes years, but, you can do it. Do not give up.
...and finally, a word from Ann Diamond "This past spring, I was on Crete visiting villages where many people live to be 100 years old and up. It’s a combination of high altitude, relatively organic agriculture, healthy diet, knowledge of herbs and medicinal plants — and basic attitude. These are descendants of the same villagers who heroically resisted the Nazis while so many other peoples caved in to terror.
Intuition tells me we should turn to Nature for support to get us through this time. I learned about plants that really cure cancer, by cleaning toxins from the blood. My Greek natural doctor/friend swears by aloe vera and a herbal concoction called Swedish Bitters. There are also plants growing naturally in our environment that can protect against radiation sickness: the roots of one of the Yucca family are an example.
We should be forming study and support groups to share information on how to have a healthy immune system, by eating healthy. Also, eliminate FEAR from your diet. The NWO is based on fear and separation. It’s a turning away from One-ness and Nature. Never forget that, and don’t allow them to gain power over you by surrendering to fear."

Breaking News...
On the morning of April the 6th, Professor Niels Harrit of Copenhagen University in Denmark, who is an expert in nano-chemistry, was interviewed for an entire 10 minutes during a news program on the topic of the nano-thermite found in the dust from the World Trade Centre, (WTC).
During this news report, Harrit, who is one of the nine scientists primarily responsible for the pivotal paper entitled: ‘Active Thermitic Material Discovered in Dust from the 9/11 World Trade Center Catastrophe’, talks about how their research, which was conducted over 18 months, led to the conclusion that planes did not cause the collapse of the three buildings at the WTC on 9/11.
He says that they found such large quantities of nano-thermite in the dust from the WTC, that he believes that this compound, which has the ability to melt metal, must have been brought into the WTC site in tonnes, on pallets. Consequently, he suggests that we need to address this matter with those who were in charge of the security at the World Trade Centre on 9/11.

'How Gordon Brown became 'The Gordfather' Read more HERE
In Brown's world, power is more important than performance. Until the "bust", Brown relied upon spending billions and distorting statistics to retain power. In pursuit of a fundamentally flawed economic policy, he trumpeted disingenuous statements about his "golden rule" of balancing the budget to conceal Britain's growing debts and the inevitable recession. Over the past months, that trusted ruse was exposed, confirming Britain's unprecedented financial plight
